William and Maymie Kimes Annotation

The Proceedings contains three papers prepared by Dr. Samuel Kneeland from letters and extracts of letters written by John Muir. The first was read by Dr. Kneeland at a meeting February 21, 1872. Muir says of this in a letter to Mrs. Jeanne Carr, October 8, 1872: ""Professor Kneeland, Secretary Boston Institute of Technology, gathered some letters I sent to Runkle [president, Massachusetts Institute of Technology] and that Tribune letter [no. 2], and hashed them into a compost called a paper ... and gave me credit for all of the smaller sayings and doings and stole the broadest truth to himself."" (Letters to a Friend ... , no. 331, pp. 134-135.)
