Abstract
Most policy-making decisions are based on improving cities without focusing on the region surrounding them. Policies should include regions, as regional influences affect the country's global competitiveness. Regional problems that require solutions include socioeconomic division between urban and regional areas, regional environmental damage and inefficient regional governments.
