Introduction/Context/Diagnosis

Absence of accessible dental care instructions and information can be detrimental to oral healthcare delivery. Patients may benefit from educational brochures/pamphlets that provide individually tailored dental care information in a clear, concise manner. The PIP focuses on the creation of an educational brochure/pamphlet and corresponding protocol to facilitate this process.

Methods/Treatment Plan

The following steps were achieved to create a pregnancy pamphlet that will serve as a template for future UoP educational brochures/pamphlets. Under the mentorship of Dr. A. Jeffrey Wood, the goals and direction of the pamphlet were developed. Images and design were then established through collaboration with UoP’s Department of Design and Photo Services, followed by content review by the Department of Marketing and Communications. The Department of Informational Technology ensured environmental sustainability and easy accessibility of the finalized pamphlet on axiUm. The exact steps and main sources of contact were documented to create a protocol outlining the fabrication process.

Results/Outcome

The PIP produced two documents: "Expecting A Baby & Keeping Your Mouth Healthy" (Figure 1) and “Protocol for Creating an Educational Brochure/Pamphlet” (Figure 2).

Significance/Conclusions

The pamphlet and corresponding protocol provide straightforward instructions that will facilitate the development of future UoP brochures/pamphlets. These brochures/pamphlets will serve as a valuable resource for patients by providing comprehensive care specific to their needs. Additionally, they will function as a reference of current treatment guidelines and proper patient care instructions for the dental professional. In conclusion, integrating educational brochures/pamphlets into clinic may enhance the doctor-patient relationship, increase compliance, and improve patient comprehension of instruction.
