Moderator: George Randels, Professor of Religious Studies, University of the Pacific, College of the Pacific

Biography: George Randels is Professor of Religion and Ethics in Pacific’s Department of Religious Studies, where is also chair. He was co-chair of the Bioethics Group of the American Academy of Religion 2012-2018, and has been a member of the Medical Ethics Committee of St. Joseph’s Medical Center in Stockton since 1998. At Pacific, Randels has been teaching Biomedical Ethics annually and now teaches Introduction to Health Humanities. Before coming to Pacific, Randels taught ethics courses at Emory University’s School of Medicine, Emory’s Goizueta Business School, New College of Florida (the state’s honors college), and the University of Virginia. He received his PhD from the University of Virginia, a master’s degree from Yale University, and a bachelor’s degree (Phi Beta Kappa) from the University of Iowa.

Randels is co-author/editor of Contemporary Bioethics (Oxford University Press, 2009), and has published articles in various journals and books, including BioLaw, Business Ethics Quarterly, Journal of Business Ethics, and Journal of the Society of Christian Ethics. He currently is working on a book project titled Bioethics Beyond Health Care.
