Description
This session will sample some of the theories and practices of productivity gurus such as David Allen, Seth Godin, Jeff Sanders, and Tim Ferriss. With special attention paid to an author’s morning routine, we will discuss maintaining focus, eliminating distractions, and meeting deadlines. Participants in this session will learn the meanings of terms such as GTD, Pomodoro, the Four-Hour Workweek, the unfair advantage, and the 10-Minute Hack. A list of applicable resources, primarily books, blogs, and podcasts, will be shared with attendees.

Dr. Andy Jones was named Poet Laureate of the City of Davis in September, 2014. His second term began in 2016. In addition to placing poems in a great number of small journals and magazines, and anthologies such as Flatman Crooked’s Slim Anthology of Contemporary Poetics – 2010, Andy published his first book of poetry, Split Stock, in 2006, his multi-modal book of poetry, photographs, and essays, Where’s Jukie?, in 2014 (with his wife, Kate Duren), and his poetry book In the Almond Orchard: Coming Home from War in 2016. In 2011, Andy published the essay “How Twitter Saved My Literature Class: A Case Study with Discussion” in the anthology Teaching Arts and Science with the New Social Media (serialized at The Wheel). Andy’s books in progress include a book of poetry, a guide to Davis, a collection of essays, a compendium of writing advice from notable authors, and a book on parenting children with special needs. Andy regularly gives poetry readings throughout northern California, recently having performed his work in Modesto, Sacramento, San Francisco, Crockett, Lafayette, and before 600 children in Natomas. Andy taught the Advanced Poetry Workshop to undergraduates at UC Davis in 2001, 2011, and 2012, and has served on the poetry faculty of the San Francisco Writers Conference since 2005. Andy also informally mentors poets and authors as the Host and Coordinator of the Poetry Night Reading Series at the John Natsoulas Gallery in Davis, California, and as the host of “Dr. Andy’s Poetry and Technology Hour” on KDVS. Andy’s 2017 book was titled Pub Quizzes: Trivia for Smart People. Designed by book designer and artist Evan White, Pub Quizzes is 350 pages long and contains over 1,000 trivia questions.
