Abstract

The Veteran Mind Project bridges the gap between military and civilian cultures by teaching communities how to genuinely support Veterans. Grounded in research and lived experience, the project raises awareness of the emotional, psychological, social, and cultural barriers Veterans face when reintegrating into society after active-duty service. The project offers training in cultural competency to help the community better understand, interact with, and support Veterans during reintegration. Through mixed methods inquiry, the work highlights the importance of belonging, identity reconstruction, and trust-building as critical components of recovery and long-term wellbeing. The goal is to empower systems and communities to engage Veterans with empathy and effectiveness.
