Solar System at a Glance: The Black Nexus
Format
SOECS Senior Project Demonstration
Faculty Mentor Name

Faculty Mentor Department

Abstract/Artist Statement
In recent years, several government agencies have made their collected data available for public use through APIs or ‘application programming interfaces’. This allows programmers to access vast quantities of government data for their own use, however this data is not easily accessible for the average citizen. The Black Nexus is a full website dedicated to presenting various collections of data in a graphical and easy-to-understand format along with basic data manipulation functionality. Want to see how many asteroids passed by Earth in a given time frame? The Black Nexus, with data collected from NASA, can tell you along with each of the asteroids’ descriptions, names, and the estimated proximity to Earth. This project will allow researchers, hobbyists, and everyday people to gain easy access to otherwise technical information.
