The City of Stockton was founded in 1849 in the Central Valley of California, eighty-three miles east of San Francisco. Stockton's location on the eastern edge of the San Joaquin Delta that feeds into San Francisco Bay has made it a major shipping port. This collection of postcards documents the history of Stockton. Most of the images are of buildings, streets, and businesses. Many aerial views of the city are also included. Images in this collection date from approximately the 1900s to the 1990s. Those images with a Resource Identifier of 0001-2999 were contributed from the Ron Chapman Postcard Collection, and those numbered 3000 on were contributed from the Alice van Ommeren Postcard Collection.
