Dear Brother John-
Thinking that this might be our last chance for a word of greeting to you, until your return. Mother was anxious that I should write this morning, just to let you know that we were all with you in heart where ever you may be. And to ask you to send us back a word now and again, as you may have oportunity – But did Mr. Keith meet you in Chicago = or are you lost in that wicked city?
Three letters from Martinez for you arrived here on the morning after you left us – And knowing that you were to go directly to the “Century” office upon your arrival in New York I forwarded them to the care of the Century Co. and I hope they have reached you ere this – Anna W[illegible]man & Company are here, renewing old acquaintances & visiting old [scenes?] – and we are all enjoying the visit – With love from us both and prayers for your protection & highest good – I am every your aff. sister
