My dear Brother John
You asked me to keep you informed in regard to Joanna's affairs. I have just found out that she is greatly in need of help just now as Walter has been able to send her only nine dollars since some time in Nov. She has quite a bill run up for needed provision and at present Walter has no way of earning money to send her. He says the water business is dead just now. there is so

much snow that he cannot get his wagon out. and if he could, there is no demand as people are melting snow for what they cannot get otherwise. he hopes to do better when the spring sets in. He says he has been trying to find some other way of earning enough but so far has not succeeded and says he feels about crazed to think of how she and the children will be getting along. Joanna and the children are well. J-- keeps up good courage alwas hoping for better things, and feeling that God will care for her in his own way. We are all about usual.
Very affectionately Susan.
