(Copied from fragment marked Y-l)Dear Mrs •Alexander:I was very glad to get your very kind Easter greeting. As the years fly by, as our life's day speeds on, more precious to us are these friendly greetings, stirring memories of auld lang syne, and among the best of mine arethose of our famous trip with Sir Joseph [Hooker]and Mr.Gray and the General[John Bidwell] and you and your sister [Mrs. Bidwell]. Those rides through the Shasta forestsand about Lassen and volcanos and [illegible],and the camfire talks where so many ourious [illegible]were broken, and the trees and floral treasures we found, and the visit at Chico when it was in all its glory, and the grand flying send-off you all gave me down the Sacramento in Snag-Jumper, etc., etc. I had delightful letter from your sister the other day, with news Of Sir Joseph and your visit to Mrs. Cray, and inviting me to Chico. How time flies.[JOHN MUIR]*(Mrs.) Sallie Kennedy Bidwell, sister to Mrs. Bidwell
