You know the latter was my proposition and I have all along understood that that was on the stocks for us. It would break my heart to have that go to anybody else, whatever you might do with other books. But I believe that with Scott in a liberal mood toward you we can do as well by you as any other publisher in America.Do go ahead with the Yosemite, and let the two men who have fought so hard for it be associated in your celebration of that great wonderland. I hope you will make your work a very practical handbook and that you may live many years to use it when you go up [illegible]into the Valley, to find your way about.I have had a fortnight of grip and have not been able to send you my memoranda about my relationship to the Yosemite, but that will follow when I can get a little more time.Faithfully yours,[illegible]Mr. John Muir.04964
