Prof. John Muir,
President American Alpine Club,
Martinez, California.
My dear Professor Muir:
It is planned to hold the next business meeting and dinner of the Club on Friday, December 31st, at the rooms of the Appalachian Mountain Club in Boston. Them. As. Adv. of Science will be holding their sessions there at the same time. I am expecting to send out a preliminary notice shortly and it would be very good if I could include in this the news that you would be present and preside. I do hope you will be able to so arrange your affairs as to join us this year, and in sending you this letter of reminder I am carrying out the wishes of a number of the members of the Board who are most anxious to see our President in his place at the head of the Board.
Our gatherings are not large or formal, but include a lot of men of the right sort whom it would warm your heart to meet.
I know the journey across the continent is a good deal to expect of anyone; hut if you come you will not regret it, and we on our part need a message from the Sierras and our distant brethren in

Many thanks for yr kind letter on the plan for the next business meeting & dinner of the Club. Should the fates be kind enough to allow me to cross the Continent next Dec you may be sure I shall be delighted to meet you all in Boston. At present however the outlook is far from promising. Strange to say the severest exposure in the wilderness never does me any harm, while in civilization I catch all sorts of disabling coughs colds Grippes etc. especially when I venture to travel far on railway cars in winter. And since my home has been broken up by the
