Martinez, California, June 25, 1910Dear Cousin, Sister Margaret who as you know has long been frail died Wednesday the 22d and was buried in the Martinez Cemetery Friday the 24th. She suffered little or no pain. Her last three days were passed in quite unbroken sleep, and thus she entered the Better Land. All her children were with her. Her son Harry and daughter Ann having come from Nebraska, John Jesse & May are living on the ranch here. While David and Sarah came from Pacific Grove. I was writing in a friends house at Los Angeles but hurried home three weeks ago in time to help to cheer and soothe and comfort her in passing through the dark valley.Last winter she suffered from a severe attack of influenza followed by a fall from her bed and a slight shock of apoplexy under which she gradually faded away. She was nearly 76 years of age, the oldest and best loved of the family And while glad she is at rest, we still mourn her loss. Trusting the summer weather is cheering you both I am affectionately your cousin John Muir04816
