Swetts, Friday night 12 o’clock

Dear Louie I have been looking every day for a letter about the children and have not yet heard a word. As for myself there is nothing to say only this Shasta work. Mrs. Swett promised this morning to call and tell you that I could not get done in time to get home this week. I have just finished the 77th page. Have worked very hard all day and nearly all night. This is only the 3rd day as Monday was spent at Dewings. The article is going to be very long. Have not been once out of the house since I entered it on Monday nor will I go till the Shasta is done. Captain Rodgers wants me to dine with him and I mean to try to call at Bentons and at Moores before returning. Emily is sick abed. Mrs. Swain nursing her and Mrs. Tracey.

Tell Hee to prune the peach orchards hill beginning at the top when the weeds are tall. For heavens sake keep the children and Heaven keep us all. Now must try to sleep head hot and weary but writing well and fast. Ever yours John Muir Will telegraph when to meet me.
