John Muir. Esq.,
Martinez, Calif.

My dear Muir:

I have yours of the 28th of August and send you herewith the balance, sixty dollars, of the amount which you desire for the "Colorado Canon." I shall have to speak to Gilder about the article on Kern River Canon. I have written to the President to tell him that I hope he will let you be his guide, through the Yosemite when he comes to California this fall. I know you will be glad to do for him what you have done for so many other men of note, and I am particularly desirous that he should not fall into the hands of the Yosemite crowd. I am glad you are to see Mrs. Tully. She is genuine and racy. I am expecting to go with Mrs. Johnson about the first of October for a trip in Italy, to be gone four months.

Very sincerely your,
[illegible][03035]
