WILLIAM W. ELLSWORTH
PRESDENST

November 11, 1913

Mr. John Muir,
Martinez, California.

My dear Mr. Muir:

We are preparing a small volume of geographical stories for use as a sup-plementary reader in schools, to be made up of sketches by various authors which have appeared in our magazines and books, and we would like to include three extracts from "The Mountains of California" - "A Winter Scene in the Yosemite," "The Mountains of California," and "The Forests." In order to adapt these for a children's reading book it has been necessary to simplify them to some extent. Would you like to see proofs? and may we have your permission to use the material?

Sincerely yours,

[illegible]
