[Original letter returned to Mrs.J.B. MoChesney]
Martinez, April 29, 1913.
Sear Mrs. MoChesney.
I am glad to hear from you after so long a silence recalling lang syne days. From Clara I got news of you all, but you may be sure I shall enjoy renewing acquaintance ere long. To old friends we naturally cling all the closer as the evening of life draws nigh.
I thank you for your kind congratulations. Eight days ago I was exactly three quarters of a century old. Remember me to Alice and George and believe me,
Ever faithfully yours,
John Muir
