Mr. John Muir,
Martinez, Cal.
Dear Mr. Muir:
I find your kind letter on my return from my long and interesting trip. I saw nothing in the way of ferns and trees as charming as the Blacks Spur and I thought that you might be glad to hear from two of your widely separated friends who happened for the moment to be together. I feel vary guilty at having been neighbors so long: I have never set foot in your house and so far as I remember you have never bean to mine. When are you coming to Palo Alto? I am just now leaving for Boston, but will be book about the let of September, after which time I hope you sill visit us for a day or two at least. Meanwhile, the first time I think I can. I shall stop at Martinez.
Vary truly yours,
[illegible]
