New DISCOVERIES PETRIFIED FOREST

Mr. john Muir,

Martinez, California.

Dear Mr. Muir:

Your favor May 20th received, enclosing sketch of the various deposits in the Petrified Forest and describing the new discoveries made toy you in the vicinity of Adamana.
Am very much obliged for this information, which will be of great use in our advertising. If I go west this summer will make it a point to visit the new sections. What you say about the age of the petrified trees is very interesting; also the fact that they probably grew where they now are.
As you may know, a bill is now before Congress to set aside the Petrified Forest as a national park, thus preserving it to the people of the country for all time to come. The area included only comprises what are popularly known as the first, second and thirdforests. It looks as though the recently discovered Blue and NorthSigillaria Forests, ought to be likewise included.
Would you also recommend that Bibo Grove, eight miles east of Adamana and the three Sigillaria Groves, lying between four and five miles Northeast of Adamana should be brought in with the others, or are they of minor value?
Should you again wish to visit Adamana, will be glad to furnish you with transportation over the Santa Fe, unless that item has already been arranged by Mr. Byrne or Mr. Gregory.

Yours truly,
