John Muir

[Richard Watson] Gilder

Martinez, May 20/06

Dear Gilder:

We were hurt but little by the earthquake--chimnies shaken down etc--& my studies of the wonderful of coal period forests of Sigellaria, Lepidodendron, Lepidophloms, Dadoxylon Tree ferns etc, have not been interrupted in the least
My daughter Helen is much better & we hope to bring her back soon to the California home ranch. With sincere thanks for your kind letter & wishing Mr Johnson's management of Vesuvius may be satifactory I am faithfully yours
