John Muir

[Helen & Wanda Muir]

I came up last eve to get letter[s?]. I'm so glad Helen you are so well Ive found a glorious lot of books on ancient botany - wished I could buy them. I suppose a year or more would be required to gather them from the worlds book markets. But strange to say few of the writers on the old carboniferous forests know more about them than we do & we will surely be able to make a good picture of [those?] wh flourished about

Darlings, I hope you are enjoying your last free Adamana outdoors as you should, How glad I'll be to get our little family together again in our little valley. I've still another home [illegible] I'm at Charlie [illegible]ers only 5 minutes west from the Sig-Less. Calamites Library where I shall probably be found until called by the bells - wedding bells - the only confounding kind able to draw me from my own work ways

Tell Mr Donahue to gather up everything odd & queer & see if I cant name them all when I get back laden with Greek & Dog-Latin. The more I see & learn about these old carbon swampy forests the more wonderful they appear. Now Darlings keep well & strong & happy. Heaven bless you, write every day to your loving father

the hills & dales of grazin land.
Ive seen Willie & taken a few walks with him He is busy accumulating another pile of [illegible] equal in size to the 2000 one he lost & better in quality. Charlie [illegible] took me to call on Mrs & Donald Dickie, but they had gone home to Iowa 2 weeks ago. We called at President Wheeler's home but he was out at a meeting. Then at Howards & had a pleasant visit - met Mr Wooster there
