[illegible]

Paris, Sept. 28, 1905.

My dear Mr. Muir:

The last week or so we nave been touring in Touraine and Bretagne in a motor-car, and at one place visited Carnac, a picture of which I enclose, for the same name, though spelled differently, recalled our visit to the other Karnak, and I was wondering what the word meant and thought perhaps you could tell me. These stones in Brittany are very ancient too and are supposed to be Druidical stones, either designed for a temple or a fort or a combination of both, for nothing very definite seems to be known about them. It was curious and I thought you might be interested. Nothing can compare with the Egyptian Karnak, however.
We have had a delightful summer spent in England, Scotland, Germany and France, and are now ready to go home. My brother sailed last Saturday and we expect to follow shortly, as soon as we can get passage back, as the steamer, Breneen, on which we had our cabin reserved, broke her shaft and is at Halifax for repairs, and there is no other ship to take her place on the day of sailing. It is rather inconvenient, for there are so many Americans abroad that every boat is "full up" as the English say, and we are awaiting answers to telegrams to different lines for passage back.
I am so glad that peace has been declared after such a long struggle between, the Russians and the Japanese, and my sympathy was entirely with the latter nation through it all.
Hoping you and Mrs. Muir and your daughters are well and with kind regards to you all from my sister and muself, I am,

Sincerely,
Laura Bell,
