Mr. John Muir,
Martinez, Calif.

Dear Mr. Muir:

Does the subject of "Reconstructive Power of Trees" interest you! That is not a good phrase, but I mean their ability to repair damages, to grow out in such a way as to balance limbs destroyed by some accident, to recover from lightning and the ravages of fire.
we do not intend to tease you for articles, for we quite understand that your own work is very engrossing, but we shall be vary glad if you will simply have us in remembrance when you write. The Century, you know, is enjoying a well preserved middle age, while the Country Calendar is an infant needing sustainment and a guiding hand.

Very truly yours,

New York
