Mr. John Muir,
My dear Sir:
As an old bookseller of over 50 years standing, I seem in some way to be a partner with the author, and so dare ask a favor of you.
I send "Mts. of Cal." by this mail, and if agreeable give me a pleasant thought and your signature on title-page or fly-leaf for my own private library. My wife and self have been in the Yo-Semite and in your section, and before facing "Muir Glacier on board "The Queen" Mrs. Bridgman had the dimensions, the general idea of that wonderful glacier so clearly defined in her mind as to be able to give us a most vivid description of same. Hence we shall value a closer relationship to you by a few words in the book mailed to-day because of our Alaskan trip.
