Mr John Muir
Martinez Cal.
Dear Sir:
I respectfully ask your assistance in our efforts to preserve the historic names of California. I enclose a copy of a letter I am sending out to various societies, colleges &c, and a draft of my proposed letter to the head of the postal department. If the subject appeals to you I would be very glad to have your help: and if, in addition to a communication to the department, you saw fit to address a letter to the president, I am sure it would be most effective.
Regarding myself, my good friend, Rev. Joseph Worcester has authorized me to use his name.
Very respectfully
Joeth [T.?] Eldredge
