Feb. 13th, 1893.

My dear Mr. Muir,

I forgot after all to say anything to you about the dinner on Friday evening next. I shall be very glad if you can make it convenient to go with me, and think I can promise you a very pleasant evening in an informal way. The Club is composed of about twenty-five young literary men, lawyers, artists, newspaper writers, and university men, and meets once a month for a simple dinner together. After dinner an essay is read by some member and a discussion follows. Every thing is conducted in a very free and easy way, no full dress, no ceremony, no nonsense of that sort at all. Mr. Davis, Mr. Cheney, and Mr. Holder will in all probability be present – they have signified the intention of being present. I promise you that you will not be called on for a speech, either formal or informal. If you can come,
