ARNOLD ARBORETUM,
HARVARD UNIVERSITY.Jamaica Plain, Mass.,…May…24,…1897.My dear Muir;Nothing new about the forestry situation. The report has been printed a long time but for some reason or other Bliss won’t let it out, being afraid, I fancy, that it may interfere with some scheme of his own.I am writing today to ask you to tell me how many years the leaves of Pinus Sabiniana remain on the branches. I dare say you have noticed about this and can tell me without trouble. As far as I can judge they fall in the third year.
An early answer to this question Will oblige me.In haste,
faithfully yours,
[illegible]John Muir, Esq.02290
