[letterhead]

Monday noon.

My dear Mr. Muir,

On reaching here this noon I find your letter awaiting me, and am relieved to find that my memory had not failed me as badly as I feared. Mr. Tait, misunderstanding matters, informed me that I had written to you making the appointment, and as I couldn’t quite remember just what I did write I thought that was the case. The letter was delivered at the University Saturday morning but at the time I was over in San Francisco hunting up an office for the Sierra Club. If ever again you desire to communicate with me on short notice, it will be better to address me at my home, 560 Fourteenth St., Oakland. I find acceptances waiting from several men this morning, so that our list is now close on to 175. Mr. Price was just in and wishes me to convey to you his great regret that he did not meet you on Saturday. Both he and and Bartlett would

have been delighted to accept your kind invitation.

Yours very sincerely,

Wm. D. Armes.
