To the Editor of The Tribune --- Sir:
Referring to a discussion of Yosemite affairs in your columns, I would state that twenty years ago I was employed by the month, by Mr. Hutchings, to saw lumber from fallen timber, with which to build cottages in the valley. I never cut down a single tree in the Yosemite, nor sawed a tree cut down by any other person there. Furthermore, I never held, or tried hold any sort of claim in the valley, or sold a foot of lumber there or elsewhere.
At the time of my first visit to the valley, and while I lived there Galen Clark was guardian. He is guardian now, and to that gentlemen I would refer you for further information should you require it.
Respectfully,
John Muir
