My Dear Brother John

Your good & kind letter was rec'd the first of the week & I do thank you and Louie . we have done much thinking since then & would like to come & accept your most generous offers if the way was clear, John has written, too explaining the situation somewhat - but it is hard to write so as to make one understand the outs & ins. John does not feel like abandoning the ranch after so much being paid on it, but is trying hard to sell it if he got no more for it than would pay Sarah so unless he leaves it (& it is not likely he can

do that) someone will have to stay on it. & as John cannot find anything to do that would pay here, in & around Crete, we think we must leave & be all together on the place it will cost less & perhaps we can make a little the boys & J. I can at least save all I can if I cant do any more John thinks he must leave home anyway (after he puts in a little crops) to find something to do. You spoke of Walter Brown he is still in Philadelphia, where he has been all Winter & I do not know how long before, trying to put through some railroad scheme of his, which if he succeeds in will be a fine thing for him - & if otherwise will prove very disasterous. Joanna is still in Portage and may be all next summer.

Mary has come out to her new home in Neb. we had a very pleasant visit of about a week with her & her two youngest children, she stayed about the same length of time in Lincoln & started for Kearney about a week ago I had a letter from Mother within a few days they are all pretty well but Annie L she ahs been sick with this influenza for three weeks, & is only able to sit up about four hours in the day now.

With much love to all I am your affectionate Sister
