Martinez Dec. 26, 1887.
Dear Brother Dave
I wish you & your family a hearty happy New Year hoping that Heavens blessings will attend you in all your works & ways.
I was very glad & not at all surprised to hear that you were married. How glad I should have been had you come to us in our sunny country on your wedding tour instead of to Thunder Bay But we will hope now that the journey here is so simple an affair you will still make us a visit & allow us to be good to you-
I am [driving?] away at a book that keeps me
almost stupidly busy & will not be finished in a year. The ranch too is an eternal fountain of work.
Cant you send me out a half [illegible] good steady young men 9or women) to work-
My man is just starting for Martinez & I just close in Haste
Good luck my boy in all your undertakings & Gods blessing with all
Ever Your affectionate brother John Muir.
