My dear Sargent,

How does the Silva come on? I have just written to [illegible] our publishers to send me all the volumes ready. I had a grand time in Norway & Switzerland got hold of some good telling facts as well as lots of pure enjoyment. Had a grand day with Hooker in London & another in his fine home

at Sunningdale. How sturdily the grand old botanist stands up to his work - pegging away at the flora of India. In Scotland & England I saw many charming homes & pleasure groun[illegible] but none finer than yours. Never shall I forget the blending of your rhododendron with the sunset sky the happy days I spent with you When are you going to India? Let me know when you are ready & I'll go with you if you'll let me. I've been reading the two vols of Grays letters & noticed many pleasant things about yourself - Gray was one of the brightest sweetest & most charitable of men.

With best wishes for the New Year & Kind remembrances to all your happy family I am truly your friend John Muir
