dimensions & [seemingly] sculptured [from one single block of gray granite] A wonderfully impressive monument [mass] its like are exquisite in firmness & though sublime in size, [so large] is finished like the finest work of art & seems to be alive [live North Dome faces it from the North] & so narrow is the Tenaya branch of the valley between them [here] as compared with their height of the domes were they to fall towards each other they their heads would come together long before without nearly reaching half way to the ground. Have been busy sketching, sorry I can thus gather in the [take] so little of the vast show [this divine wilderness.]]

July 17th [This morning drove the flock today around the head of Indian Creek basin to the rich pastures on the head of that stream & Dome Creek was established a new permanent camp [ ] here we intend to stay until we move to the High Sierra which will probably be in a few weeks as the snow is melting fast these warm days. The awkward [wool bundles] had a difficult scramble thru the ceanothus & manzanita chaparral [had a difficult drive over rough rocks & brush. [established] A new [permanent] camp today [established] was made to [Our new camp] It [is] in a dense grove of silver fir at the head of a small stream that flows into Yosemite by way of Indian Canyon. Here we intend to stay several week & a fine location from which to make excursions [Capital spot for headquarters for my exploring] about the great valley & its fountains [through] [the adjacent region. In the heart of] Through the most interesting scenery in the [world] [perhaps I shall see much of Yosemite & its upper fountains from above. The feed being abundant no herding will be required of me.] Fine days I’ll have sketching, pressing plants [specimens] studying the topography the lakes & the streams, but the vast mountains in the distance! & the wild animals our happy fellow [ ] & neighbors.
