[Yosemite] Mas 1500 ab [above] Val [Valley] [at] Smiths Saloon (Ill [Illilouette] Fall [bot] [bottom]) [20]° slope Fall not at end of can [cañon] N 35 E Wall [ ] [sketches: Ill [Illilouette] Copied Aug 1887 1 Clouds Blocked across from lower side of Cath [Cathedral] Rocks to El Cap [El Capitan] along [the] [brd] [broad] [stream] Light yell [yellow] above [fringe] with here & [there] Reddish lower Bottom unenlightened [to] all gray Dense as rocks Orange Tis [Tissiack] in yell [yellow] light with veil of clouds stretched ac [across] a [bit] below perp [perpendicular] with gap [ ] Small patches of bare sunny rock & gauzy [places] [where] light is [shiny] yell [yellow] [Thus] down the Vall [Valley] direct light is streaming through clouds up reflected light [N] Wind blew tops aslant making them appear like huge [overleaning] rocks red & yel [yellow] crags
