February 17. All morning with Mr Taylor, revel[l]ing in New Zealand plants at the Botanic Gardens. In the afternoon packed and start for Auckland. Sail from Lyttleton at 10:00pm on steamer Mokoia. February 18. Beautiful picturesque shores, green water. Arrive at Wellington at 11:00am. Leave at 6:00pm. Went up town to the Government Printing Office and was glad to obtain a copy of Professor Kirk’s Forest Flora [1889], also of his Students’ Flora [1899].
