Left horses at 12500, 3 in snow from day previous, Hulsea v [very] ab [abundant] in gardens Yel [yellow] big heads appearing above snow, at first flrs [flowers] closed then open as if enjoying it, polomonium also & a lit [little] lower, primula v [very] ab [abundant] beneath stones. 2 patches of White var.? also dwarf big flrd [flowered] epilobium

60 ab [abundant]. Tracks of Woodchuck & of 2 or 3 small mice etc. Many pools of melting snow on summit, glorious views 100s of mtns [mountains] all round, adorned by magnificent clds [clouds]. A long series of lakes the topmost new born no meadow. Balfour makes the timber line at about 12000 all big & little erect a few dwarfed contorta on timberline. Magnif [magnificent] granite walls showing all sorts of clvg [cleavage] [Nature]
