Chicago Jan 1899John MuirMy Dear SirWith this please find the "first fruits" of your generous contribution to the cause of the birds or what will be when sent out. This article of Mr. Dutcher's was "set up" in this form, with the intention of sending the same to all the [Agl.?] papers of the country, to serve as "copy"; it is just off the press. Just at this point (after letters had been written, and envelopes addressed to the [Agl.?] papers,) comes a letter from Mr. Lacey (Member from Iowa) saying that the bills in the Senate and the House has been joined, and the dual bill sent to a com. of conference this seems to be the critical time: so I wrote to Mr. Lacey and to Senator Hoar,02538
