William and Maymie Kimes Annotation

This article is composed of excerpts from the forthcoming book, The Yosemite, no. 308, published the following month. "I. A Perilous Exploration of the Yosemite Falls" is an account of Muir's harrowing experience of venturing out on a narrow ledge behind the fall to enjoy the "savage music" and remarkable moon views. His enchantment vanishes abruptly, however, when the windswept fall suddenly engulfs him in a "thundering bath." "II. A Ride on an Avalanche." "III. Earthquake Storms."
