Abstract/Artist Statement

The Baun Fitness Center, the student recreation facility at the University of the Pacific, is utilized everyday by about 10% of the population of the school and a majority of these people enter the facility by themselves and conduct their workouts alone. Buddy Up is a mobile application that will attempt to encourage gym-goers to find their ideal workout partner. The application will be a combination of the user interface for the widely popular dating application, Tinder, and a workout scheduler. Buddy Up will utilize a matching algorithm to show users potential gym partners based off the similarities of workout schedules and certain personal preferences. The user will be able to decide whether or not they want to match with the potential gym partners. After matching with another user, you can initiate conversation using the chat system to schedule when and where you want to workout together. Buddy Up will allow users to create their own workout plans for the week. The algorithm will take in the workout for the week and display gym partners that align with when you workout as well as what workouts you have in common for the days of the week. During the Senior Project Day Presentation, people can expect the application to be run on an iOS device to be showcased.
