Although Muir noted, "the Scotch simply made the discovery that there was a connection between the skin and the memory," in his 1908 draft autobiography that became the cornerstone of The Story of My Boyhood and Youth, he also used his copy of Grammatical Exercises, on the Moods, Tenses, and Syntax of the Latin Language for, perhaps, his earliest known drawings.
