Over the past decade the lack of diversity in the entertainment world has gained the attention of the media and the public, ranging from the gross disparity in pay for women actors to the scarcity of Asian-, African-, and Latin-American leaders throughout the boardrooms and executive suites of the music industry.

Today’s students will become tomorrow’s entertainment industry leaders and hosting a symposium to look at the causes and effects resulting from the lack of diversity will help them to better understand how to foster a culture of change and inclusivity in tomorrow’s industry.

The conference is being held on the Stockton campus of University of the Pacific, which started one of the first music business programs in the west and whose alumni have risen to leadership positions in music, broadcast, film, arts presenting and music tech firms around the nation. The innovative newly launched Media X Program provides students with a path to develop their narrative and media technology expertise preparing them to help shape a richer, more inclusive media.

X-Boundaries - See Us. Hear Us: Addressing the Diversity Gap in Media and Entertainment is sponsored by the Music Industry Studies Program at the Conservatory of Music, Media X Program, and College of Pacific Dean’s Office, in partnership with Pacific Arts and Lectures, and ASUOP. It is the fifth in the continuing series of “Crossing Boundaries” events hosted by the University.
