Abstract

Patients often face challenges adhering to medication schedules, particularly when they are required to split or crush pills. Existing pill splitters and crushers in the market typically require significant force to operate, making them difficult to use for individuals with limited strength, such as the elderly or those with physical disabilities. Additionally, patients prescribed multiple medications or varying doses may struggle to organize and track their medications effectively, leading to missed doses and potentially severe health consequences. Our device aims to address these issues by combining pill organizing, crushing, and splitting functionalities into a single, user-friendly product. This innovation is designed to improve medication adherence and patient experience by simplifying the process of pill preparation. The device is particularly beneficial for patients who need to split pills for reduced dosages on specific days, children who are unable to swallow pills, and pets that require medication to be mixed with food. Additionally, the device helps individuals with multiple medications stay organized and avoid confusion, which can have adverse health effects if not appropriately managed. The target market for this device includes patients with complex medication regimens, caregivers of young children or elderly individuals, pet owners, and people who need to adjust their dosages. Current market options include manual pill splitters and crushers, as well as automated pill dispensers, but none combine all the features required to improve compliance and usability in a single device. For instance, the HERO Automated Pill Organizer offers pill organization but lacks crushing or splitting capabilities. At the same time, the MedaCube Automatic Pill Dispenser, priced at $1,799, provides medication dispensing but does not organize or crush pills. Other devices, such as the WindTrace Automatic Pill Dispenser and generic Apex pill cutters, focus on either organizing, dispensing, or splitting pills. Still, they do not integrate all these features into a convenient, battery-powered solution. Our device is designed to meet the growing demand for manual and automated pill management solutions. By combining pill splitting, crushing, and organizing with automated release times, it offers a comprehensive solution not currently available in the market. It is battery-powered for ease of use and portability, and its design ensures it can be easily cleaned and stored in a standard kitchen space. The device addresses the needs of diverse customer groups, including individuals with physical limitations, those managing multiple medications, and caregivers looking for an efficient and safe way to administer medication.
