Abstract/Artist Statement

Unbound + is an after school program designed to help students embark on a journey of success and safety. The program aims to provide, to those students who need it, extra academic help and a safe space to remain after school hours. The program includes many fun activities not offered during the school day, such as arts and sports.

The program is designed to help Unbound Stockton combat issues that effect the education of 4th-8th graders. One key factor that effects students in the San Joaquin area is educational redlining. This discriminatory process withholds resources from those who are of lower socioeconomic status, especially those who are Black and Hispanic.

The program helps to aim intentionally diversify the students that join us. The program aims to provide extra support to those who have been affected by the redlining. The program prioritizes those families and students who are in the free and reduced lunch program.
