Abstract/Artist Statement

The San Francisco Department of Motor Vehicles Field Office was constructed in 1961 and has deferred maintenance for decades. The office was constructed with a 50-year lifecycle and requires the replacement of the existing facility. To design the replacement, the new facility must consider ADA, CEQA, City of San Francisco, and State of California standards. Along with this, the replacement will make the facility more accessible and safer for the community.

The designs for the replacement of the facility will include an 18,000-square-foot field office, an increase in parking spaces, and an improved utility plan. Increasing parking spaces in the parking lot will attract and accommodate the larger field office. Designing a new utility plan will distribute stormwater to bioretention basins around the facility, repurposing rainwater and giving the facility an eco-friendly appearance.
