Abstract/Artist Statement

In "Visual Pleasure in Narrative Cinema," Laura Mulvey discusses cinematic gaze and the role of women in film. In her essay, Mulvey only applies her theories to male directors. This analysis expands upon Mulvey's writing by applying her theories to the filmography of Jane Campion to see how these filmic techniques are used and subverted by a feminist filmmaker.
