My capstone project,"Our differences make us Unique,"is a photographic series based on six immigrant women from different cultures showcasing their traditional clothing. This series reveals that even though we come from different backgrounds, we speak different languages, we have mixed cultures, we are still unique. What would the world be like if we were all the same? It will be so boring! We can’t say that our culture is better than someone else's culture. We all are unique because of our differences. We all are special and we all matter. Second part of “Our differences make us unique,” includes the interview questions. I am interviewing these women to share some stories about their culture. Some of the questions in the interview that I am asking are; which country did your family come from? What cultural groups do you belong to and what languages do you speak? What do you like about your culture? For this project, I am using the photography Studio for the portraits. I was inspired by Eric Lafforgue, a French photographer. He has taken portraits of women from different cultures or backgrounds. These women are in their cultural clothing. I was inspired by the composition, balance, style, and the concept of his portraits. My goal is to use a similar layout, but instead of showing the background I am using a solid color background. My main purpose with this project is to convey that we all are blessed with different cultures which makes all of us unique. “No matter what your differences are, you have to embrace them and be proud of the way you are.” - Jazz Jennings
