Abstract/Artist Statement

I created three large-format banners for Pacific Recreation to be displayed on its premises. Pacific Recreation strives to get students active and excited about getting active. And this is where I came in and created clean designs that grabbed the attention of my audience and got people more engaged with the activities that are offered there.

The White Mountain Peak Challenge banner promotes a climbing challenge that the center does every year to get students to use the rock climbing wall in house. I wanted to communicate something warm and worth all those climbs through the design. Therefore, I illustrated a sunset, as that is probably one of the best things that you can see at the end of and enduring climb.

Intramural Sports had less information than the other banners and needed a clear structure. In the previous semester, there were over ten different intramural leagues going on. The one I was designing only had eight and it was broken into two seasons, as to keep better track. Rather than having a text on a plain background, I decided to use a duotone color scheme as it is a very popular trend in music because of services like Spotify. This added a visual interest to the poster.

Tiger Escapes had different problems. The previous banner had a busy background that made it too difficult to read to look at. I chose to use a landscape image in the background because I felt it would help students focus on the text but still be intrigued by the background. I chose duotone color for this poster as well.
