Abstract/Artist Statement

Giga Player is a music player that supports psychedelic playback features. The catch is that you can listen to songs with features applied during playback without the need for preprocessing. Some of these features are: reverse, speed up, slow down, and playback skipping. Giga Player is a software music player, with no hardware dependencies, which allows it to run on multiple platforms. The motivation for this project came from listening to a lot of music backwards through the use of programs such as Audacity to edit sound files before playing them. The need to preprocess the music files in order to satisfy the curiosity to hear one's favorite music in a different way is inconvenient, so Giga Player is an attempt to cut out the middle man. The intent for Giga Player is to provide the user with intuitive granular control over a song's playback. The current status of all active effects (playback features) is displayed on the screen for reference as a user may incrementally increase the speed or reverse the playback at the stroke of a key.
