These 25 notebooks were written by John Muir between 1856 and about 1912 and offer a unique perspective on Muir's life and experiences in his own words and drawings. Generally, Muir’s notebooks are unique drafts of ideas, books, and articles, but sometimes contain field notes.

Muir also kept 78 journals that are available here. The journals generally are field notes.
